Oscar Jefferson, Jr.

Sunrise: August 26, 1937

Sunset: January 17, 2025

Oscar Jefferson, Jr. passed away peacefully at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA, on January 17, 2025, after battling cancer. Born on August 26, 1937, he was the son of the late Oscar and Viola Jefferson and the youngest of fifteen children.

Oscar proudly dedicated 20 years of his life serving his country in the United States Navy. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a Boiler Technician for 21 years at Little Creek Amphibious Base as part of the Civil Service. When asked about his plans after retiring from Civil Service, Oscar famously responded, “Little to nothing!” He stayed true to that sentiment, enjoying his retirement years in his favorite spot—his recliner.

On May 30, 1980, Oscar married Alice Faye and became the stepfather to her six children. Affectionately known as “Pop,” Oscar was a man of few words but a big heart. In conversation, he often responded with “mmm-hmm” or “okey dokey.” He was a perfect role model for his children and played a key part in encouraging his sons to tackle home improvement projects with enthusiasm. He will always be adored by his family. Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, thirteen siblings, his daughter Christine Harris, and his grandson Jordan Marshall. He is survived by his wife, Alice Jefferson; his children, Karen Dunlap, Sabrina Lucky, Larry Marshall (Jennifer), Sean Marshall (Cecilia), and Steven Marshall; his older brother, John Jefferson (Alice); his sister-in-law, Rita Philips; his sister in law, Audrey Jefferson; his brother-in-law, Donald Melvin (Denise); his son in law, William Harris; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jeff was my neighbor for thirty years. In those years I observed him as he watched three generations of children riding their bikes in the driveway. My heart goes out to Alice and all of the family in this time of sorrow. God bless and keep you.
