Oscar Alexander Butts, Jr.

Sunrise: February 12, 1955

Sunset: April 20, 2021

Our beloved, Oscar Alexander Butts, Jr. was called to his heavenly home Tuesday, April 20, 2021. Oscar, affectionately known as “Bubba,” was born Saturday, February 12, 1955 in the South Norfolk area of Chesapeake, Virginia, to the late Oscar and Lola Mae Butts. He is predeceased by his sisters, Velma Griffin and Rosalind Smith.

Oscar matriculated, as a student, through the Chesapeake Public Schools system. He worked for many years at the Norfolk Shipyard then in his true passion, as a landscaper. His other passions included dressing to the nines (to which he would boast: “I’m a clean man”), cooking, watching sports (especially the Washington Redskins), listening to music to dance to and to spirituals that satisfied and soothed his soul.

Later in life, Oscar met and married Linda Jones. During their courtship, Oscar and Linda began attending and eventually joined Shekinah Kingdom Church. Led by the Spirit, Oscar dedicated his life to the Lord and was later baptized on July 15, 2018.

Left to cherish his precious memories are his wife, Linda; his children: Oscar Griffin (Marquetta), Latrese Griffin, Tremayne Griffin, Sherman Paul, Jerry Ervin (Allison), Jermaine Erin, Dr. Angerina Jones, and Alivia Jones; his brothers: Larry Butts, Michael Butts (Avis), Donald Butts (Pamela), Carlton Butts, and Marvin Butts (Basie); his sisters: Brenda Mullen, Patricia Anne Caudle, and Carolyn Eason (David); his 17 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Many will sorely miss this loving and hilariously funny husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” John 13:7
