The Journey of Life
Olivia Marie Cherry, affectionately known as “Cadillac,” peacefully departed this earthly life at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, February 13, 2025.
Born on April 19, 1956, in Norfolk, Virginia, Olivia was the beloved daughter of the late Julian Harrison and Lillie Mae Cherry. She received her education through Norfolk Public Schools and went on to dedicate many years of service to her community, working at the YMCA and The New Journal and Guide until her well-earned retirement.
A devoted woman of faith, Olivia was a proud member of Grace and Hope Missionary Church. She loved God deeply and cherished her family above all else. Known for her nurturing spirit, she found great joy in caring for children of all ages. Olivia lived life to the fullest, always radiating love and positivity. She never let anything bring her down and always carried the firm belief that she was blessed- confident that one day, she would stand in the presence of her Lord.
Olivia was preceded in death by her beloved children, Richetta Cherry, Nicole Cherry, Randy Cherry, and Tony Cherry; her sisters, Mary Houser, Susie Spruill, Juanita Cherry, Annette Cherry, Bernette Hodges, and Emma Cherry Simmons; and her brothers, Jesse Cherry and William Cherry.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her devoted sister, Otelia Cherry of Norfolk; her loving children, Chuck Cherry and Denise Cherry; a host of adoring grandchildren; a great-grandson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Though she is no longer with us in body, Olivia’s legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith will continue to shine through all who were blessed to know her. I am blessed. For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.
Life is not always easy to live, but the opportunity to do so is a blessing beyond comprehension.
During my time here, I’ve been through many struggles. Struggles that would break most people. I’ve seen and heard many things, good and bad, but I never let them break my faith. I knew that times like these are troublesome and full of pain. Don’t cry for me, I have enjoyed my time here with my friends and family. Keep your head up and your faith strong, and I will see you again because I AM BLESSED.
