Odell Odom, Jr., was born on October 1, 1968, in Centreville, Illinois, and passed away on January 23, 2025.
Odell graduated from East St. Louis Senior High School and went on to serve his country by joining the U.S. Navy in 1989. Following his service, he pursued his passion for cooking by attending culinary school and later worked as a cook. Odell also had a long and dedicated career as a shipfitter at the Norfolk and Newport News Shipyards.
In 2012, Odell married the love of his life, Selera Odom. Together, they built a family filled with love and cherished memories. He was a devoted father to Corey Odom, Mariah Odom, Terel Young, Sharona Harris, and Tenisha Harris.
Odell had a zest for life that was evident in his many passions. He loved sports, especially cheering for his favorite football team, the Chicago Bears. He enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, sharing his love of music with those around him, and cooking meals that brought people together. Above all, Odell had a deep love for children and took great pride in being a family man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Odell Odom, Sr., and Joyce Naomi Odom. He is survived by his wife Selera, his children, and his siblings Patricia Bradley of Kansas City, Kansas, Lenda Broaden of Belleville, Illinois, Tamera and Marlo McKinney of Cahokia Heights, Illinois and Antonio and Sheila Odom of Belleville, Illinois.
He also leaves to treasure his memory two beloved grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends.
Odell’s warmth and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.

January 28, 2025 at 2:17 pmTo the entire Odom family, you have my and my family’s deepest sympathy on the passing of Odell Jr. I’ve known all of you since you were little kids, your parents, Odell and Joyce, and I know you are good people, that come from good people. I know Odell Jr will be missed, and it’s going to leave “hole” in the family space for some time that only time can ease (for a little bit) Be comforted in that he no longer is in any pain, and that he is with Odell and Joyce. As always, we are here for you as friends and neighbors, Elaine (Mathews) Gossett and family.
