Nora “Vera” Mae Helen Moore passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2024. She was born November 19, 1930, in Chocowinity, North Carolina, to the late Abe Moore and Rosa Hudgins.
Vera attended the public school system in Beaufort County, NC, and college at North Carolina Central in Durham, NC. After her college graduation, she moved to Queens, New York, and worked for the City of New York government for 25 years. She retired and relocated to Norfolk, Virginia.
Vera was a loving member of Merrick Park Baptist Church in Jamaica, New York, and for many years was a devoted member of the church’s North Carolina Club. She enjoyed sewing, painting, and playing the piano. She also liked to travel and spend time with family in North Carolina and Virginia.
She leaves behind three children: Doretha Moore, Gregory B. Moore, and Elaine C. Moore. One daughter-in-law, Sandria “Keyla” Allen; A loving brother, Leo M. Moore. Three sisters-in-law, Stephanie Moore, Mary Frances Moore, and Diane Moore. One grandson, Kenneth J. Bryant, Jr.; Three granddaughters, Mercedes O. Allen, Dannyell P. Allen, and Patience S. Allen; Two great-grandsons, Kai I. Bryant and Asiah S. Bryant. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Vera “RueMae” will be remembered for many attributes: her faith, independence, strength, and wittiness, just to name a few. She lived a full and well-lived life. Truly a unique woman who lived by her terms. The circle of life continues, wishing her a peaceful journey onward.
She was loved, cherished, and will be missed but not Forgotten.
