Nathaniel Dawson

Nathaniel Dawson, or “Nate” as he was known by loved ones and friends, was born on August 26, 1963, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Rosa Lee and Willie James Dawson Sr. He departed this beautiful life on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at home. 

After graduating from Lake Taylor High School, he continued higher education in California.  He served in the United States Marines Corps and United States Army for an accumulative of over 23 years. He was employed by Norfolk Sheriff Department for over 19 years prior to retiring.  He was a well-loved member of his community who he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.  Nate also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

In addition to his parents Rosa Lee and Willie James Dawson Sr, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Eva Dawson Drew and Arleda Dawson, brother, Willie James Dawson Jr.

Left to cherish his precious memories are: his loving and devoted wife, Edna (Laverne); daughter, Malika Dawson; stepson, Larry Smith, Jr.; three sisters: Della Elliott (Wallace), Tallulah Dawson and Terry Upshur; four brothers: Joseph Ebron, Romeo Dawson (Pamela), Alvin Dawson (Elizabeth), and Christopher Dawson (Gloria); a sister-in-law, Sonya Hairston (Jimmy); a brother-in-law, Tyrone Barbour; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
