Nathaniel D. Quarles

Sunrise: July 29, 1975

Sunset: September 5, 2020

How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there, the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.

On Saturday, September 5, 2020, Nathaniel Delano Quarles, also known as Nate and Grizzwold G. received his wings and answered God’s call to come home. He was born in Norfolk, VA and was the son of Shirley James and Melvin Quarles, Sr. Nate was a devoted son and loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend who was loved by many.

At an early age he attended Salvation Army church and maintained a close relationship through working various activities, especially ringing the bells during the holiday season. Nathaniel was an avid reader and loved mysteries,
especially James Patterson.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Taina Beince KeSeen Rhines. He leaves to cherish his memories a loving mother, Shirley of Norfolk, VA; father, Melvin, Sr. of Roanoke , VA; four children, Kendalle Perry of Norfolk, VA, Desiree’ Sweatt of Smithfield, VA, Myaria and Nathaniel Rodman of Norfolk, VA; three brothers, Nicholas (Nitra), Melvin (Sherrita) of Chesapeake, VA and Jermaine of Norfolk, VA.

Nate was a very cheerful person who always greeted you with a smile. He loved life and loved being around people, especially his family. Nathaniel enjoyed life, loved sports and was a true fan of the Dallas Cowboys Football Team. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

His Lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Matthew 25:21

Shirley and family, I was deeply saddened to learn of Nate’s passing. I met him while he worked with the New Majority Organization at NSU during the last Presidential election. He impressed me with his deep dedication to his family, especially his children. He spoke of them all the time. May his beautiful Soul rest in peace.

To those who knew him at TCC and Salvation Army, he was well liked and will be missed by many. My dearest sympathies go to his family and his kids. Nate was a friend to me and my mom and sis along with so many others who knew him at Salvation Army. I also got to know him at TCC in which he was a member of not only SGA but a club that helps disabled people. For those who knew him they will never forget him.

The words have not been invented yet to express to the world how much I cherish, appreciate and love you, Nate. Forever my friend, often my mirror, and a light in the dark that I could always depend on; I am going to miss you so much. Although my heart grieves that you are no longer here, my spirit rejoices because I know you are with God and that I will see you again. Until then, fly high love, fly high.
I send all of my love and deepest prayers of peace and comfort to the family. I love ya’ll.
