On Monday, May 19, 2025, Nathan Tylik Johnson was called home to be with his Heavenly Father. He was born on February 26, 1976, to Lillian Jackson and Clifton Aikens in Brooklyn, New York.
Nathan, known to all as “Nate,” loved the Lord and valued his relationship with God more than life’s circumstances.
In 1996, he became a member of the Christian Tabernacle in Wilmington, Delaware. He worked as a teacher at Christian Tabernacle Academy for 14 years before coming back to Virginia in 2010 and working at Liberty University. During his time at Christian Tabernacle Academy, he taught and was beloved by all his students. He also served on the Elders Board for several years and volunteered as the Youth Pastor as well. In this past year, he served as a valued employee at Rainbow Restoration here in Norfolk, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Aikens; and his sister, Desiree Aikens.
He is survived by his mother, Lillian Jackson; his three brothers, Shakwon Allah, Albert Johnson, and Clifton Aikens, Jr.; his four sisters, Tiffany Trahan, Ceciley Bly, Ebony Aikens, and Nicole Johnson; his brother-in-law, Christopher Trahan; bonus Mom, Jaime Hurd; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him deeply.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your path straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

June 4, 2025 at 11:36 pmGod knew that Nathan’s heart was so big that he shared it with two families. I will be forever thankful that his biological family shared him with his Delaware family! Nathan’s heart for people and his love for his Savior impacted many. I will never think of Vacation Bible School or a prom/formal and not think of how he made those so special for many kids in as many as four states. I will miss him in more ways than I can list, but I will miss his laughter most of all. He shared his heart freely and served the Lord with enthusiasm. He will never be forgotten as his legacy lives on in the lives of his many students and the family that loved him so!
