Napolean Basnight

Our beloved Napolean Basnight affectionately known as “Big Nap” or “Nap Pole” was called home to his eternal life in glory on Monday, April 19, 2021. On September 30, 1958, Napolean was born to Rebecca Carey Elliott and the late Willie Basnight, Sr.  in Portsmouth, VA.  Napolean attended Norfolk Public Schools and was well known throughout Norfolk, Chesapeake and Portsmouth area.  Napolean was a very loving, humble, funny, outgoing man. He was always the life of the party. He was a legend, the loved everyone that ever came across his path.  He loved cooking, cleaning, the outdoors, dancing, making people laugh and spending time with family and friends. Napolean had a heart of gold with a very bright spirit. He enjoyed going to church, he loved making money, he was known to always dress nice and always had a positive energy; but also didn’t tolerate no mess.
Napolean is preceded in death by his daughter, Natasha N. Alexander and three brothers, Cecil Shelton Carey, Franklin D. Basnight, Willie Basnight, Jr.
All in Virginia, Napolean leaves to cherish his memories one daughter, Naquisha N. Alexander, three sons, Laneth D. Alexander, Naveil D. Alexander and  Napolean Kittrell; ten grandchildren, Shakilra P. Alexander, Aphonso T. Tabron, Naquaysa McNeil, Na’myJa J. Alexander, Neveah D. Alexander, Core’Darryll C. Hawkins, Eternity B.  Alexander, Honesty S. Alexander, Knowledge S. Alexander and Ziyonna Gallop. Napolean also leaves to cherish his memories, one great grandchild, Zaidrien McNeil; two sisters, Faith Whitehurst and Rebecca Duplessiss; five brothers, Herbert Carey (Theresa), Floyd Carey (Cheryl), Sylvester Basnight, (Kay), Solomon Basnight and Tommie Lee Basnight as well as a host of family and friends.
Viewing Wednesday, April 28, 2021 2:00pm - 6:00pm Metropolitan Funeral Service 120 W. Berkley Avenue Norfolk, VA 23523 The family is following the CDC and State of Virginia guidelines for funeral attendance.
