Myra Denise Carter, 70, peacefully entered eternal rest on Thursday, December 5, 2024. A lifelong resident of Norfolk, Virginia, Myra was born on June 15, 1954, to the late Carolyn Berthena Howard and Norman Leroy Sheppard.

Myra received her education through the Norfolk Public School System and dedicated 33 years of service to Hampton Roads Transit. She was cherished for her loving and generous spirit, as well as her exceptional talent for cooking. Whether it was Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, weddings, banquets, anniversaries, or funerals, Myra’s cooking expertise and hospitality brought comfort and joy to countless lives. Beyond her cooking, she was known for her boundless compassion, often opening her home to those in need. To know Myra was to have a place of refuge and love.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Elisha Carter; her beloved daughter, La’Joy Monique Howard; and her cherished nephew, Demetrius Lamont “Red” Howard.

Myra’s legacy lives on through her loving daughter, Capria (Mark) Smith; four sisters, Carolyn Howard Lewis-Brown, Phyllis (James) Minton, Nancy (Richard) Hendricks, and Arlette Howard, all of Norfolk; three brothers, Chauncey (LaVern, predeceased) Howard of Philadelphia, PA, Jay (Beverly) Howard, and Michael Howard, both of Norfolk; five treasured grandchildren, JaKiara Howard, Carla Howard, Caprice Howard, Gregory Howard, and Karon Howard; ten adored great-grandchildren; four step-children, Elisha Jr., Ervin, Angela, and Delsie; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever hold her memory close.

    My condolences to all the family and friends. Myra was like family to me, because she was friends with my sister. I can say she was a beautiful person whom I will never forget.     My condolences to the Howard family. Myra ( Poo) my nickname. for her was a good friend. I met her when she drove for stop and, my children rode with her .Then we spent 30 years together as bus drivers. I loved Myra and, will never forget our good times. RIP Myra . You Had Better Not Looked Funny Or Said Nothing. We Were So Blessed To Have Community ,Raising Us. Momma Myra Had A Place In Her Heart. For Every Child & Persons She Had Encountered. May God Continue To Bless Each And Everyone Whom Is Here To Carry The Torch Of Love, Passing It On As She Did. Yes, These Are Big Shoes To Fill, With Jesus We All Can.     Aunt Nicey why you had to go so soon. You was my back bone when I was in VA you always made sure me and my kids was good. You didn’t have to help us but you did. Thank you so much for helping me and my kids . RIP Auntie Love you.
