Moses Singleton, affectionately known as Papa and Sing sing, 82 of Virginia Beach, Va died unexpectedly on Sunday October 6, 2019 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Moses is survived by his wife of 47 years Gladys S Singleton, 10 children and their spouses, 24 grandchildren and their spouses, and 36 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 sisters, in-laws and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by 1 son, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Moses was born on February 10,1937 to Henry and Virginia Singleton in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. He worked on his family farm until he enlisted in the US Navy in 1954 as a pipefitter. He retired from the Navy after 21 years and went on to work and retire from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
Moses was a devoted and loving husband, a kind and gentle father, and a big playtoy to his grand and great grand children. He enjoyed cooking and eating, entertaining and eating, and watching westerns and eating. His jovial spirit and sense of humor made him an instant friend to all he encountered. His lifelong interest in the Bible and his love of God moved him to become a founding member of First Baptist Church Camelot where he served on the board of Trustees and as a Deacon for over 30 year in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Moses’ good natured spirit and willingness to help others is a testament to him being a genuinely good man. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the good fortune to know him.
He will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial, Chesapeake, Virginia.
