On September 30, 2022 at his home, God in His infinite wisdom very peacefully brought to a close the earthly life of Deacon Miles Elliott, II. Deacon Miles Elliott, II was born November 09, 1948 in Portsmouth, VA to Miles and Margaret Elliott. He is one of five children born to the Elliott’s which included his brother, Joseph and sisters, Margaret, Barbara and Carolyn.
Deacon Elliott, II is a product of the Portsmouth Public School System. He is 1967 graduate of I. C. Norcom High School and furthered his education at Tidewater Community College where he received an Associate Degree in Accounting. Deacon Elliott, II is a veteran of the United States Army. After serving two years in the military, he found employment at the United States Postal Service and retired after 33 years.
On November 12, 1968, Deacon Elliott, II married the former Patricia D. Staton and they became the proud parents of two children: a daughter, Danielle Bazemore and a son, Miles James Elliott (M.J.). Deacon Elliott, II loved fishing, his small garden in the backyard in which he shared the produces (tomatoes and cucumbers) with family and friends, and traveling with his family.
At the age of 12 years, Deacon Miles Elliott, II, became a member of First Baptist Church of Taylorsville under the leadership of Pastor T. Melvin Steele. His father, who was a Deacon of the church, made sure his children were in Sunday Church School and regular church services each Sunday. Growing up as a youth in the church, he was a member of Boys Scout Troop under the leadership of the late Deacon John H. Johnson and also participated in the Young People’s Choir. He had fond memories of the fellowship and friendships formed as the youth studied the Lord’s word together.
As an adult, he continued to be an active member of the church as a Trustee and in 1999 ordained as a Deacon. He had the privilege and honor to serve with his father, Deacon Miles Elliott. From his father, he learned the meaning of being a servant for the Lord. He was the former Vice-Chairman of the Deacon Ministry and was the current Financial Secretary of New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville). He was a faithful member of the Joint Board (Deacons/Trustees), Men’s Ministry and the Male Chorus. He loved New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville) and his church family because this is where he found the Lord and received Him as his Lord and Savior. He was eternally grateful.
Deacon Elliott, II was predeceased by his parents, Deacon Miles and Deaconess Margaret Elliott; his brother, Joseph Elliott and sister, Margaret Puckett.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Deaconess Patricia Elliott; his daughter, Danielle Bazemore (John); his son, Miles James Elliott; two sisters, Barbara Riddick, and Carolyn Daniels (Mack); one uncle, Haywood Elliott (Jean) and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
Deacon Miles Elliott, II stated, “It is my prayer that I show myself worthy of all the blessings the Lord has bestowed upon me”.
