Mildred Perry

Mildred Lee Perry, 82 of Chesapeake, Virginia answered her call to eternal rest on Thursday April 30, 2020 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Mildred was born on February 3, 1938 to the late Leler Perry and Eddie Griffin. She was a member of Greater Mt. Zion COGIC Portsmouth, Virginia. Mildred was employed briefly in the Chesapeake School System as a Food Service Worker and later as a substitute custodian before becoming a homemaker. Mildred loved cooking and caring for her family and friends. It was her love and passion that lead her to prepare Sunday dinners so all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends could assemble together every week. She was affectionately referred to by many as “The Cook,” the “Heart” and the “Big Mama” of the family.

She was preceded in death by her mother: Leler Perry; her father: Eddie Griffin: one brother: Joseph Perry, Sr. (Elnora) and two Sons-in-Law: Joseph Liggins, Jr and Albert Lee Askew. She leaves to cherish her memories five daughters, Phyllis Perry of Chesapeake, Virginia; Patricia Askew of Portsmouth, Virginia; Carol Liggins of Hampton, Virginia; Yvonne Overton (John) of Portsmouth, Virginia and Cynthia Spencer (Clarence) of Portsmouth, Virginia; four Son’s: Christopher Perry of Chesapeake, Virginia, Minister Cornell Perry (Tiffany) of Chesapeake, Virginia; Keith Perry (Sharlene) of Chesapeake, Virginia; Donnie Perry of Portsmouth, Virginia; 25 Grandchildren; 39 Great Grandchildren; 14 Great-Great Grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
