Mildred E. Nicholson Lynch

Sunrise: November 7, 1928

Sunset: June 20, 2024

Mildred Nicholson Lynch, daughter of the late James Nicholson and Mary Bell Daniels Nicholson, was born on November 7, 1928, in Littleton, North Carolina and entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at her home, where she transitioned from labor to reward.

Mildred was educated in the public schools of Littleton.  In 1946, Mildred married Obie Lynch, Sr. and shortly thereafter moved to Norfolk, Virginia.  From this matrimony came six children.  Mildred was a devoted mother who had a strong work ethic.  Throughout her life, she worked as a domestic and janitorial employee.  She retired from Chesapeake Public Schools (mostly employed at Carver Elementary School) working in the cafeteria as the “bread lady.”  She was famous for making her notable cheese rolls.  Even several decades later after her retirement on October 1, 1999, her cheese rolls are still a topic of discussion.

Mildred took care and spoiled all of her children and grandchildren.  She was a kind-hearted person.  Although she never raised her voice, at times she did go to the big tree in her front yard to pick out a switch for her kids or grandkids.

Her favorite Saturday ritual was looking through the newspaper for yard sales.  You could let her know what you were looking for and she would find it for you with joy.

She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Obie Lynch Sr.; brothers, James Tensley Nicholson, James Henry Nicholson; sisters, Robena Nicholson, Mary B. Sledge, Addie Baptist, Eva Nicholson Franklin, Nellie Clanton; daughter-in-law, Joan Malone Lynch; son-in-law, Roger E. Hall, Jr.; grandson, Charles M. Williams, Jr.; and great-granddaughter, Tanisha Woodley.

Mildred leaves to cherish and uplift her memory, her children, Dr. Patricia L. Stith (Melvin), Zenola Banks (William), Helena L. Dodson (Daryl), Kimberly Hall, Obie Lynch, Jr., and Cheryl Alexander (Donald); sister, Reata Manning; her grandchildren, Dr. Melvin Stith, Jr., Lori D. Stith, William Stith, Kisha Evans (Anthony), Bryan Dodson (Charlene), Kassie Hall, Roger E. Hall, III, Nakima Lynch, Obie N. Lynch, Shari Wilson, and Donald Alexander, Jr.; 11 great-grandchildren; 7 great great-grandchildren; special neighbor, Lois Sharp; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

My deepest sympathy to the family. My aunt Mildred was the epitome of a wife, mother, hard worker and beauty, both internal and external. As a young girl, I look forward to visiting her in the summers., Eating her delicious meals occasionally going with her downtown to work and playing baseball in her backyard with the rest of my cousins. I never felt homesick because being with her was like being with my mom those memories always be etched in my heart . To the rest of my family. You were blessed with an angel. May her memories bring you peace and comfort.

Sincerely your cousin Mary Jane Clanton & Family
