On the morning of 4/27/2021, Michael Stephone Edwards departed this life while hospitalized in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born on 6/27/1963, in Wadesboro, NC, to the late Eddie Hugh and Gwendolyn Ingram Edwards. Michael graduated from Booker T. Washington High School , and attended Norfolk State University, both in Norfolk, VA. He was a valued employee at many local companies, including Hecht Distributing Co, and most recently Military Sealift Command, where he served for over 20 years. Michael was a devoted and loving family man. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Felicia Renay (Gilliam) Edwards, his daughter Kourtney Edwards, sons Brandon Gilliam, Jonathan (Trey) Edwards, and Blair Edwards, all of Virginia Beach, VA, and his adored grandchildren, Isla and Kylan Edwards. Michael’s survivors also include his brother Douglas (Antwon) Edwards, mother-in-law Olivia Kearney (Louis), brother-in-law, Bernard (Champ) Gilliam (Taneisha), as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Michael enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends, listening to music, and fashion, especially his infamous hats. He will be missed most for his radiant smile, his infectious laugh, and most importantly the love he brought to so many.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 8, at 1pm at Metropolitan Funeral Home, 7246 Granby St in Norfolk, VA. The service will also be live streamed. Following the service, there will be a burial at Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery in Chesapeake, VA. The body may be viewed on Friday, May 7 between 2-6pm at Metropolitan on Granby St.
