To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heavens. A time to be born into this world and a time to depart. ~Ecclesiastes 3:1 – 2
A time to be born – Michael Lee Vaughan. was born into this world on October 7, 1956 in Norfolk, VA and transitioned into eternal life on Tuesday July 28, 2020. Michael was the fourth child born to the late Leroy N. Vaughan Sr. and Doretha Allen. He was also preceded in death by his sister Elsie M. Pamp. Michael was educated thru the Norfolk Public School system. He obtained employment with various companies throughout his life. Not one to sit idly around and settle, Michael was always seeking better opportunities to improve his career which ultimately led to him becoming a Merchant Mariner with the Seafarers International Union, located in Norfolk, VA. Michael was a very high spirited, lighthearted and joyful individual who was always
the life of the party. You could always count on Mike to make you laugh with his jokes and humor. Singing was another passion of Mike’s, which he fulfilled when he joined the New Hope Mass Choir under the direction of William (Billy) Brown. Michael loved working on home improvement projects, working in the yard, cooking and tinkering with any type of high tech gadget. But nothing could compare to his love for “Dem Boyz”, the esteemed Dallas Cowboys. He loved to dress and dance. He always wanted everything neat, clean and in its place. He had a time where he loved and a time he embraced. Michael was united in holy matrimony to Selina Vaughan on November 27, 1999. He was a father of five beautiful daughters, a devoted brother, stepfather, grandfather, brother-in-law and a favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews.
A time to die-Michael passed on through this journey of life on earth. He lived life charismatically and never knew a stranger. We find comfort knowing he is now safe in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ where there is no more pain, only peace. Michael may be gone from our sight, but never gone from our hearts. We will always
remember his beautiful smile.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of twenty one years, Selina Scott Vaughan; five daughters, Taishimah Hawkins (William), Veronica Tyson, Nicole VaughanGrows, Melissa Wilkerson Jones (Melvin) and Erica Vaughan; two brothers, Leroy
Vaughan Jr. (Lynette) and Derek G. Vaughan; four sisters, Patricia Carter (Gerald), Linda Long (William), Dondrell Smith and Michelle Johnson (Kevin); one stepdaughter, Stephanie Scott, one living aunt, Jean Cherry, twenty-eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

August 19, 2020 at 7:20 pmHere we go again. Unfortunately, Metropolitan is no stranger to our family, in fact many families period, but we all know that this is destined. However, somehow we just don’t keep it on the forefront as many times as we’ve been here. :-( This is one of the hardest things to embrace in life, but holding on to the “good memories” helps ease the pain. Especially, when it’s someone like my bruh-ther “n” law (brother-n-law) Mike. Being helpful, amusing, set in his ways and jovial is just to name a few of his attributes and growth. May your spirit soar among the best and I can see you sailing on high.
“We’ll miss you being here, but now you can clean in heaven”
Love,
La-Nette, Juan “Boy” & “Jah Jah”

August 20, 2020 at 2:59 pmI did not know Mike personally, but I know Leroy and Lynette. Leroy, words can’t express the sorrow in my heart that I feel for your family at this time. When I last spoke with you, you shared you were having some struggles due to losing loved ones close to you and I certainly can relate. Remember, God doesn’t put on us anymore than we can bare. He knows your heart and you know he has a greater plan. Stay strong family, you all are in my thoughts and prayers!

August 20, 2020 at 6:06 pmTo the Vaughn, Smith and Cherry family: I am grateful to have had the opportunity to come in contact with Michael during my school years and more recently saw him in 2018 while he was supporting Bernard during his family’s grief. Michael was as usual a welcoming and lively presence. Although It was a long from the 70’s and seeing him dance at Country City or hearing him laugh and joke; he remained authentic. I pray your continued peace during your time healing.

August 25, 2020 at 10:20 amMy sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family. I am so so sorry to hear of his passing. Mike and I were neighbors back in the day in Chesapeake Manor and were also do workers at the Omni International Hotel in the 80s. He was a hard worker and always a joy to be around, always joking, smiling and just a very nice person. I pray that God will comfort, strengthen and give peace to the family. Sending love and hugs and remember that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.????????????❤❤❤????????????????????

January 30, 2022 at 6:26 amAlmost two years later come July and I’m viewing your obituary again… you died on my birthday so it’s been tough for me. I wish I could joke and laugh with you like I did the last time we saw each other. I sad that you had to died alone in that hospital in Florida with nobody around. I blamed myself because as much as I pray I could asked God to save you instead I ask for his will to be done. And God’s will was for you to rest into your enternal resting place with him… I love you daddy
