Meta Etta Thomas, affectionetely called “Me-et”, wwas born to the late General and Rosa Parker on June 20,1921 in Windsor, NC. She was raised and educated in Bertie County. Meta worked for many years as a domestic worker and care giver for numerous children , all have remained in touch until her passing. In her youth she was an active member of Sandy Point Baptist Church until she moved to Virginia. In 1951 she moved to Suffolk and later to Norfolk where she joined Antioch Baptist Church, when Rev J. Matthew was Pastor. Meta remained a faithful and active member for almost 70 years. She was a part of the Jubilee Gospel choir well over forty years. She was a faithful listener to the Sunday evening broadcast. Meta loved the Lord. She loved the word of God and her church family.
On September 24,1966 she married James Thomas. They enjoyed a blissful yet brief marriage until his passing November 29,1970, with this union she gained a son J.T.Thomas and his family. Meta was truly loved by family and friends. She always had a reserved seat whenever we gathered. She loved us all. We were all special to her. Her niece Marie Cherry held a special place in her heart. Marie is the oldest remaining niece and lived close by Meta. Meta was often together with six generations sharing our legacy . Despite covid -19 she was able to see her beloved nieces and nephews in various states by using Facebook live. She will truly be missed by her Franklin Arms Midrise Community and The Southside Senior Services Center where she was given a special chair.
Meta was predeceased by her husband, James; son, J.T Thomas; daughter in law ,Sara; granddaughter, Grace; and grandson, Jimmy; siblings, Walter, Jesse, Andrew, Johnny, General, Rudolph, Maggie, Lucy, Lonnie and Rosa Mae. Meta is survived by three grandsons, Minister Lawrence Thomas (Lucy) Junior and Cory Thomas; fourteen great grandchildren, including Alfreda Thomas, whom she had a special bond with and who was by her side when she passed; two god-daughters, Evangelist Annie Hinnant and Iva Washington; two angels TeShayla and TaNia. Meta will truly be missed by all. Words cannot express all that we feel for these ninety-nine years of life. Aunt Meta you lived a blessed life. Now take your rest and wear your crown.
