Trust In the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy path. – Proverbs 3:5-6

Melvin Ricardo Quarles Jr., our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend, passed on Sunday, March 16, 2025, in a local hospital. He was born in Norfolk, VA, to Shirley James and Melvin R. Quarles, Sr.  Melvin spent his early years in Chesapeake and Norfolk and later chose to make Suffolk his home.

Melvin was a loving, caring, and what you might say a “jack of all trades,” specializing in plastering as his main profession. If you wanted something built, call Melvin; for roofing repair, call Melvin; for car fixed, call Melvin; need a ride… call Melvin. He was always willing to make himself available without hesitation.

On April 15, 2011, Melvin married his longtime friend and the love of his life, Sherrita Baker, in Suffolk, VA.

Melvin leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sherrita Quarles, children, Kayla, Qadir, Shania, and Jeremiah, grandson, Kayden; his mother, Shirley James of Norfolk VA, father, Melvin Quarles, Sr. of Roanoke, VA, brothers, Nicholas Quarles (Nita) of Texas, McAllister Quarles of Norfolk, VA, sister-in-law, Tricia and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Melvin was predeceased by his brother, Nathaniel Quarles, a grandchild, Quinn, and a favorite cousin, Angela Hoskie. Melvin was greatly loved by all, and he will be truly missed.

His Lord said unto him, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:21a
