As with Melvin’s friends and especially family members, I am stunned and saddened to learn that he is no longer with us. In the early 80’s, Melvin was assigned as my supervisor at Superior Engineering and Electronics. As my supervisor, I recall Melvin being the same approachable, easygoing, and pleasant gentleman until the last day I saw him after working with him for at least another 20 years at Norfolk’s Water Treatment Plant. As I sit here now and thinking of the many times I shared with Melvin, I can honestly say he really left a positive impression on me. He was admired and well liked by me, and I’m sure even more by family members and friends who he shared more of his life with. Unfortunately, I will not be available to attend the funeral of my friend and coworker of many years, but on that day I will be saddened and joyful that I spent time with such a pleasant human being.

I am the granddaughter of his late uncle, Robert Knight, Sr and his cousin. I am saddened to hear of his passing. I saw it through communication on Facebook. I would occasionally talk to him; however, he was always faithful to send out Christmas cards to anyone in the Knight family. I always looked forward to his Christmas outreach to the family. I cannot attend the funeral. My deepest condolences to all of his immediate family. May the peace of God comfort you, may the presence of God be with you, and the power of God keep as you reflect on his memory.
