Melvin Cuffee, Sr.

On June 24, 2019, Melvin Cuffee, Sr., 80, went into eternal rest after a short illness. Melvin received his early education in Norfolk Public Schools, and he was a  warehouse laborer for over 50 years. He also worked for a piano moving company. “Poochie” as he was affectionately called, loved listening to Aretha Frankin and Bobby Womack. His favorite song was “Step in the Name of Love” by R. Kelly (yes, R. Kelly!) Poochie was a strong man, full of character and a mentor to everyone he met. He loved to dance. His favorite dance was the “Hussell and the Two-Step.”Poochie loved to eat and don’t forget his plate.


Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Otis Cuffee; mother, Elizabeth “La”  Cuffee; sister, Kathlenne Cuffee aka “sister”, Gloria Cuffee and Florine “Glossell”
Foreman and one son, Andre Miller. He is survived by son, Melvin Davis Cuffee, Jr.
(Quanica); two grandsons, Quomel and Qovone Davis; three granddaughters, Requita Davis, Simon Miller and Sabri Miller; brothers, Otis “Phenny” Saunders
(Iora), George Cuffee (Carolyn), Charles “Sam” Cuffee, Jean Jerome Cuffee (Zella) and Tony “Fish” Cuffee all of Norfolk, VA; sisters, Gracie Cuffee of New York, Shirley
Simms and Evelyn Bailey of Norfolk, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
