Melissa Sims left us on August 1, 2022 at the age of 56 with her family by her side. Melissa was born September 10, 1965, in Norfolk, VA to Dorothy and Clifton Fentress.
Melissa worked many years as a City of Norfolk Sheriff and retired as a Corporal at the age of 50.
Her hobbies and interests included spending time with family and friends, traveling, football,(Dallas Cowboys) card playing, and being the life of the party.
She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Stars and The Fraternal Order of Police. Anyone that knew Melissa loved her as she touched the hearts of so many people. There will truly never be another like her.
She is survived by her sister, Alesha Holness; brother and sister-in-law Jay and Serita Fentress; brother, Maurice Fentress; her daughter, Jasmyne and son-in-law Jared Church; and many friends that she would consider family.
She was preceded in death by her mother Dorothy and Clifton Fentress and her grandparents James and Ella Cherry.
We invite anyone who knew her to attend and remember her wonderful life. We ask attendees to wear bright colors as this will be a celebration of her life. We also ask, when you think of Melissa, try not to cry. Smile when you think of her because those who knew her know she would not want us to cry.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stand Up to Cancer to help with cancer research.

August 9, 2022 at 1:53 pmMy cousin, my friend I am going to miss you. Our last months together was phenomenal. We talked, laugh and reminisce about our childhood. We talked about things we would like to do later on. I’m truly going to miss my cousin. Love you externally.

So sad to see that you’ve moved on, but to a better place. I remember you rocking those driving gloves in your white Mazda rx 7 in the 80s. Rest peacefully my friend.
