Maxine Brown Small, born November 27, 1950, earned her wings on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Portsmouth, VA., she was the daughter of the late Mary Magdalene Brown and the late Mack Davis.

Maxine attended and obtained her GED at S.H. Clarke. She worked many years in the city of Portsmouth. She was a God fearing woman and a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith where she served on the usher board for over 40 years as well as sang in the choir. She was loved by everyone in the city of Portsmouth. She was the best mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend that we could ask for. She was family oriented and even raised two of her grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband, Napoleon Small, two brothers, Grayland Douglas & Albert Lee Brown (Ethel Lee), two sisters, Margaret & Marie Patterson, and a grandson/son, Lamar Brown. She is survived by a sister, Cynthia Dominick (Anthony), two daughters, Brenda Muhammad and Joy Griffin (Brian), a son, Edward Small (Dorothy), two special daughters/granddaughters Shoniqua Brown Oliver (Robert) & Tiara Brown, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

    We love u mama, we r going to miss u dearly!!! Every since I was a little girl, I always thought that u would never leave me, I always thought that u were going to be here with me,. But in reality I knew that God would come and get us. This is so unreal to me. I love u my sweet angel!!
