Maude Ethel “Sugar” McConico

On Tuesday, July 2, 2019 God dispatched His Angels to the home of Maude Ethel “Sugar” McConico to let her know that her work on Earth was Well Done and she could enter her Heavenly home.

Maude Ethel was born on June 1, 1939 was a proud servant of the Lord where she diligently served as an active member of New Hope Church of God in Christ in Norfolk, Virginia as an Usher until she became ill.  She was educated in Norfolk and Chesapeake Public School Systems.

Sugar held many titles in the workforce. Earlier in life, she was a Presser for Albano Cleaners, a Childcare Provider for Norfolk Social Services and later to find her passion as a Family Caretaker and Proud Nanny until retirement.  Her work allowed her to raise generations of families with the tender love and care that she provided to everyone she met.  Ethel loved everyone and did not meet a stranger.  Cooking and feeding others were her Joy.  She believed in bringing family together through a good hot meal.  Her fired chicken and chocolate candy were the best in the world.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Willie and Thomas Drumgold and her son Eugene Vernon Hunt, Jr.

Ethel leaves to cherish in her memories: three daughters: Rita C. Gray, Dr. Gale R. Peterson and Phyllis L. Watts: three brothers: Paul Drumgold, Bernard Ensley and Linwood Hall; three sisters: Geraldine Drumgold Coleman, Cynthia Wheeler (Danny) and Belinda Ensley; two nephews: Paul Moore and Wille Drumgold, Jr; five grandson: Damon McConico, Jamaal Gray, Jabari Gray, Rolando Petit and Carl Allen, Jr.; three granddaughters: Ny’Keeta Watts, Ny’Kima Wright and Tara Peterson; five great grandsons: Hasani, Jamaal, Jacari, Jayceon and Amari; seven great granddaughters: Ny’Quazha, Nomble’, Zania, In’am, Isabella, Gianna and Leilani; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews extended family, friends and man who’s life she touched in a special way.
