OUR LOVE FOR OUR MOTHER
Celebration of Life for the Matriarch, The Queen Ms. Mary M. Anderson
A precious one from us is gone, a voice we love is stilled. A place is vacant in our hearts, which can never be filled. There is a bridge of memories from the earth to the heavens above, it keeps our dear ones near us, it is a bridge we call love. It takes us back to brighter years, to happier sunlit days, and to precious golden moments that will be with us always.
God perfect timing. Our dear Mother Mary Magdalene Anderson was born on December 28th,1934 to the late Mr. Lewis and Roxie Taylor. On January 31st, a cold Saturday rainy day, God opened his pearly gates and transported her to the above heaven.
She was born the fifth child in her family. Her sibling included the following: Pauline Small (deceased), Benjamin Small (deceased), Robert Small (decreased), Rosa Johnson (decreased), and Doris (Daniel) Burrell (decreased). Two surviving sisters: Barbara (Julius) Coston and Ida (Samuel) Bracey. And One Sister-in-Law, Ms. Sarah Russell.
Mother Mary attended Norfolk Public Schools where obtained her formal education. At an early age, she developed a love for Jesus Christ and a love to go to church.
Mother Mary was a very caring and loving woman who devoted her life to her family. Her dedication to her family and friends often went beyond the call. She had a strong sense of community for her Portsmouth Family and could be relied upon when others failed. Always there with a comforting smile. She truly was an inspiration to all of us.
In 1953, on August 9th, Mother Mary married Robert Morris Anderson and into this blended union were born 13 children. Survivors includes Larry Taylor (Wanda) Anderson, Anthony (Felicia)Anderson, Juanita (Bernard) Thompson, Sterling Anderson, Cynthia Anderson, Audrey (James)Johnson, Sarah Neely, Robert M. Anderson Jr, Delores Anderson, Mary Cross (decreased) Miles, Douglas Anderson, Coretta Anderson and Della Anderson.
As a young woman, Mother Mary traveled to Philadelphia to spend some quality time with her extended family. She later retuned home and settled down in Portsmouth,VA. She joined First Baptist Church of Taylorville. She loves to sing and was a member of the Senior Chorus. Mother Mary enjoyed life.
Mother Mary love to take walks in the neighborhood or just take a ride on the bus or car rides to the store. To know her was to love her unconditionally.
Mother Mary was predeceased by daughter Mary Cross, grandaughter, MakeshiaAnderson; 3 grandsons: Clarence NeelyIII, Khalil Johnson, and Antwaine Anderson, and 3 great grandchildren: Baby Montrell Anderson, Baby Essence Thompson and Baby Christopher Anderson. Mother Mary leaves to cherish her memory, sisters Barbara Coston and Ida Bracy. Sister-in-Law Sarah Russell. 36 Grandchildren, 57 Great-grandchildren, 6 Great-great grandchildren. And a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

February 7, 2021 at 11:02 pmTo the Anderson Family and Ms. Deja R. Anderson, Granddaughter.
I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I know how rough these experiences are. Ms. Deja Anderson, your Grandmother would be proud of you for your accomplishments and she would want you to persevere and finish your degree program at Virginia State University. She would be RESOLUTE that you have now had one of LIFE’S EXPERIENCES that shapes you. She looks like the type of Black woman who would say, “Child, don’t worry about me. You have a VSU Degree to finish. So finish it for you and for me.”
Blessings to you all.
Take care.
Very Respectfully.
