“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” Matthew 5:4
Mary Francis McNulty, also known to many as “Mama Kay” was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior on July 17, 2021. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Robert Eugene Williams and Vera Sally McCalop.
Mary was well known in the community and loved by many people. She was a hard worker and loved to give back to others. She later on met her husband, Hezekiah McNulty and to this union, five children were born. She was employed by Norfolk Public Schools where she was the lead Food Service Specialist at Francis E. Willard Model Elementary School for over 20 years. Mary had a special passion for cooking and was well known for hosting gatherings and cookouts.
Mary loved to be around her family and friends. She loved sharing her stories and showing pictures to those who were close to her. She had a true passion for children that were in need. She later became a certified licensed Foster Care Parent for the State of Virginia. She welcomed over 15 children in her home during her tenure as a foster parent. She was recognized several times as Foster Parent of the Year for the City of Norfolk.
Mary was one of six children of Robert and Vera. Three of her siblings preceded her in death, Eva Louise Stackhouse, Dudley Williams and Timothy Williams.
To cherish her precious memories, she leaves behind her husband of 61 years, Hezekiah McNulty; five children, Morrie Eugene Williams, Hellis McNulty (Glencilla), Cynthia Odum (Ronald), Margo Lymore (Joseph) and Teddy McNulty; two sisters, Annie Mildred Ezzell and Annie Pearl McCalop; eleven grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren; special aunt, Garnett McCalop, along with a host of family and friends.

July 28, 2021 at 3:17 pmCynthia,
Wishing you and the family peace and comfort during this difficult time. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. Your mom. “Mama Kay” was such an extraordinary woman inside and out. She made us all feel like part of the family. May “Mama Kay” rest in peace and continue to guide your way in life. A mother is with us forever, first in her life, then in our memory. May God turn your time of darkness into light again. May he stay by your side during this difficult time.
Your friend,
Beverly Felder

July 28, 2021 at 8:20 pmI have known ma’am longer than my birth mother. We had built a relationship for thirty-two plus years. Whereas we had conversations ranging from A to Z, and she would say, “get OD because he knows how I like my things.” She said that because of my patience. Our relationship is built on love and trust. When we all get together, we are guaranteed to have a great time. Even now, when we reminisce about her, it brings joy to my heart. Love you always.
Your son-in-law
