Mary Frances Bodger English, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully transitioned from this life on Nov 5 2024. Born Oct. 13 1951 in Winston-Salem, NC, she was the fifth of six daughters born to the late Ollie Edy Bodger and Huia Bodger.
Mary is survived by her husband, Vernon “Sonny” English, her cherished children, Erika English Wise (Brian), Sharmilla Brown ( Hashim), and Erik English, and her treasured grandchildren: Eriel English-Parker, Adriann Wise, Erieon Cherry, Treona Brown, Hashim Brown, Khali Brown, Maijania Brown, and Kaiyana English. She also leaves behind three great-grandsons through her eldest granddaughter, Eriel.
Mary was the loving sister of Emma Davenport, Lillian Leake (Odell) and Sierra Sudler (William), and the sister-in-law of Ellen “Bonnie” McCray (Jimmy). Best Friend Stella Jomes
She will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and close family friends.
A dedicated community servant, Mary spent 28 years working for Seven Eleven and was deeply involved in volunteer work. She was a proud member of two women’s clubs and played a key role in organizing the Rose of Sharon Revival Youth Explosion, a project close to her heart. Her love for children and people was boundless, and she was known for her willingness to help anyone in need.
As a devoted member of Rose of Sharon Revival under Pastor Cleveland Bates and First Lady Barbara Bates, Mary lived a life rooted in faith, love, and service. Her legacy of kindness and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
Mary’s warmth, compassion, and unwavering love will forever be remembered. She was a beacon of light to all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to inspire.
