Sunset: August 11, 2022

Marvin Hoover Warren, Sr., caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, transitioned into eternity on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at the glorious age of 90.

A native of Southampton County, VA, he was born on October 27, 1931 to the late David Warren and Rosa Powell Warren. Growing up the youngest boy of the family, he spent his time outdoors and at church, and had the special privilege of being his father’s chauffeur.

Marvin completed his early education in Southampton County. Upon graduation, he served two years in the U.S. Army in the Quartermaster division. He later completed courses at Norfolk State College.

It was an exciting evening on October 10, 1958 when Marvin Hoover Warren married Elva Mae Goode in an intimate ceremony in Portsmouth, VA. They went on to have a beautiful life and children. Their union of love, devotion, and faith in God and each other lasted for 63 years.

Marvin spent thirty-four years as a federal government employee, working at the Marine Hospital in Norfolk, VA and NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA. He retired from the federal government in August 1986. After retirement, he worked for Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia doing transportation for medical appointments and meal delivery. He also worked in operations at Dunbar Armed Services.

Marvin accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and served actively and faithfully at Beulah Land A.M.E. Zion Church in Ivor, VA. While at Beulah Land A.M.E. Zion Church, he held various positions, including Chairman of Trustee Board, Superintendent of Sunday School, Class Leader, Steward Board, Anniversary Chairman, Homecoming Committee Chairman, and choir member. He loved his church, church family, and pastors and he was dedicated to carrying out the sweet traditions of Beulah Land. When he was no longer able to travel every Sunday, he attended Providence A.M.E. Zion Church in Portsmouth, VA.

Marvin was so devoted to his family and friends. His actions, compassion, and work often spoke louder than his words. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, four sisters, son, Marvin H. Warren, Jr., and wife, Elva Goode Warren.
