Marvin Leonard Boyd was born on June 2nd, 1965, to the late Robert E. Boyd Sr. and Joyce Bracey Boyd in the city of Portsmouth, VA. He attended Portsmouth public schools and graduated in 1985 from Deep Creek High School in the city of Chesapeake, VA. After high school, Marvin joined the Army National Guard. After his tour of duty in 1988, Marvin demonstrated his expertise and education to do good work at the Ford Assembly Plant in Norfolk, VA, for 19 years until its closure in 2007. For 12 years, Marvin was employed as an assembly technician in the integrated shop at Fairlead Systems, and after 10 years, he received the 10-year Service Award. Marvin was very dedicated, highly skilled, and thorough in his work. He was well-respected and appreciated by his teammates. His supervisor, Kenny Bagley, who knew Marvin for 40 years, stated Marvin was a gentleman.
Marvin was a very dedicated Pittsburgh Steelers fan and often wore Steelers apparel at work and everywhere, especially his well-worn Steelers ballcap. He “bleeds” black and gold and loves to high-five or fist-bump other fans of his favorite team.
On April 18, 1998, Marvin was promoted to fatherhood when he was blessed with the birth of his beautiful daughter Isabelle ShaNoah McNeal. In 2004, Marvin met and fell in love with Pamela Denise Overstreet. Their favorite song was Think About You by Luther Vandross. They were married in Las Vegas on July 4th, 2006, surrounded by family and friends. Marvin lived his life and enjoyed his “man cave” with his brothers, buddies, and countless friends. All sports were fair game, and he would challenge anybody.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Joyce Boyd, a nephew, and a brother-in-law. He leaves to cherish most precious memories his wife Pamela Boyd, his daughter, Isabelle McNeal, three sisters, Annette Vanessa Pugh, Robin Brown both of Norfolk, VA, and Yvette Thompson (John) of Greensboro, NC, two brothers, Robert Boyd, Jr. and Lamont Boyd, Sr., both of Portsmouth, VA., one special sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Davis (Robert) of Lakeland, FL, two brothers-in-law, Lemiah, Sr. (Jacqueline) and Nemiah, Jr., both of Lakeland, FL, two aunts, Barbara Ann Dancy of Portsmouth, VA, and Louise Bracey of Petersburg, VA, one uncle, Linwood A. Boyd of San Diego, CA, one step-sister, Marion Colley (Lonnie) of Smithfield, VA, one step-daughter, Lashawna Nickleson of Chesapeake, VA, and nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

March 4, 2025 at 10:31 amIt has been over 36 years since I last saw you, my dear friend Melvin. I was looking forward to seeing you at the class reunion, so hearing the news of your passing is heartbreaking. However, I take comfort in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
We always promised to stay connected, but we missed that mark. Nonetheless, I will cherish the memories of our friendship—the good times, the laughter, and the bond we shared, as you were like a brother to me and Maria (sis) from another mother. Until we meet again.
To Marion and the entire family, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. May God bless you all. I hope the good times and cherished memories remain forever in your hearts and minds.
