Marva Pierce

Sunrise: October 20, 1953

Sunset: August 13, 2022

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. –II Timothy 4:7-8.

Saturday, August 13, 2022, God dispatched an angel to the home of Brother John Pierce and removed one of his delicate flowers, MARVA Y. CURRIE PIERCE. Marva was born October 20, 1953, to the late Robert and Florence Merritt. She was the oldest of four children born to this union.

Marva was raised in Norfolk, Virginia and attended the Norfolk Public Schools. She graduated from Lake Taylor High School and later attended Norfolk State University. Her educational knowledge took her down the paths of employments with the Learning Tree Child Care Center, Bank of America, Dominion Power, and Verizon.

Marva had a quiet demeanor and got along with everybody. If you did not see her, you would never know that she was there. Even in the midst of her sickness, with pain penetrating her flailed body, she remained meek and submissive: never complaining. One of her greatest hurts was the passing of her daughter Chamarr G. Currie-Smith. That really took a total on her, mentally and physically.

In 2002, Marva married John Pierce who became her mate for twenty years. She matriculated with him to Suffolk (Whaleyville) VA. Where the two of them joined the New Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ. She joined the Usher Board, Gospel Choir and Kitchen Committee and worked faithfully until her health began to fail. Her quiet smile and shy demeanor will be greatly missed by the New Gospel Temple church family.

She leaves to cherish fond memories, her husband, John Pierce; children, Sharise Arline (James), Corey Pierce (Tiffanie), Crystal Johnson; grandchildren, Dequan, Jaquonda, Nyjah, Tacoreya, Nigel, Noel; siblings, Debra Currie-Daniels (Deno), Diane Boyd, Patricia Reed; God-sister, Ferteama McFadden; one son-in-law, Donald Smith; eight sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Remember me when you look up in the shy, knowing my spirit flew so high,

beyond the gates of this world, into a better world.

Whether a friend, family member, or prayer partner;

Don’t cry because you are sad, cry tears of joy to celebrate I made it home at last.
