Marlene Denise Holland of Portsmouth, Virginia passed on Saturday, January 15, 2022 in Maryview Hospital. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and friend.
Marlene was born on January 12, 1960, in Portsmouth, Virginia to Evangeline Harding Holland and Washington Holland. She attended Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Virginia and eventually became a Certified Nurse’s Assistant. She retired from Beverly Manor Nursing Home due to her health.
Marlene became a faithful member of Celestial Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Sunday School, Missionary Society, Wednesday Night Bible Study and the Lucille H. Wiggins Educational Ministry. When Marlene’s health declined and she could no longer attend church regularly, she always supported her church financially. Also, Marlene had been an active participant at the Portsmouth Senior Station. She was a kind, sweet person who did not mind helping or encouraging others.
Marlene was preceded in death by her mother, Evangeline H. Mills, step-father, Robert L. Mills, father, Washington Holland, her identical twin sister, Arlene Thomas, sister, Freda Holland, and brother-in-law, SGM(Ret.) William B. Keys.
Marlene leaves to cherish her love and memories three children: April Taylor of Portsmouth, Markcus Holland and wife Yolanda of Suffolk and Kiamesha Louis and husband, Michael P. Louis, Sr., of Georgia. She leaves four devoted sisters: Linda Keys of Chesapeake, Erica Scruggs of New Jersey, Pamela Holland of Minnesota and Wanda Thornton of Portsmouth. She leaves her loving grandchildren: Breyon, Rashawn, Paul, Kavon, Javon, Michael, Jr., Markcus, and Jamarrie and great-grand child, Faith. Additionally, Marlene is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
