Mark Garfield Powell transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest on February 21, 2025, with his wife by his side. He was born on August 12, 1967, in Queens, New York, to the late Arthur Powell and Mary Powell. He is predeceased in death by his two sisters, Gevonia Cropper and Jonella Powell.
Mark graduated from August Martin High School in Rochdale, New York. He married the love of his life, Sophie, on June 8, 2016. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and cousin. Mark loved Jesus, family, friends, and his favorite football team, the New York Giants. Mark did not meet any stranger, he would talk to anyone and encourage them if needed. He was just a kind and friendly person.
He was employed at Alorica for 10 years as a Supervisor, and he loved his job and team members. He was a member of The Mount in Chesapeake, Virginia. Mark leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted and loving wife of nine years, Sophie; his loving daughters Shakera Harris (Nae) and Makai Powell; sons from marriage: Brandon Jackson, Denzel Jackson, and De’vonte Johnson; two sisters, Harriett Williams and Carolyn Williams; nephew/brother, Kelby Cropper; six grandchildren: Anari Powell-Wynn, Harlem Knight, Johaun Jackson, Jahzell Jackson, Jaedyn Jackson, and Denzel Jackson, Jr.; and a host of cousins, best friends, friends, family, and our marriage crew.
He walked through life with his heart open to all, never turning away someone in need. His kindness wasn’t just in words but in the small, selfless acts that made the world a little brighter. Whether it was a warm smile, a helping hand, or simply listening when someone needed to be heard, he gave without expecting anything in return. His presence was a comfort, a steady light that reassured those around him that goodness still existed.
Even in moments when life was unkind to him, he never let it harden his heart. He believed in love, in compassion, and in treating every soul with dignity. His kindness was his legacy, one that lives on in the hearts of those he touched. Though he may not walk beside us now, his spirit lingers in every act of love and generosity, reminding us that true strength lies in gentleness.
