Marjorie R. Bell

Sunrise: January 12, 1926

Sunset: August 24, 2018

On Saturday evening, August 25, 2018, an angel of love touched our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Mrs. Marjorie Bell, and into heavenly glory she flew. Her pains and sorrows have been wiped away, for today, she is in God’s care.
She was born in Berkley, Va., January 12, 1926, to the late Lathan and Julia Riddick Bell. She ventured to New York City at an early age, where she remained for over 35 Years and worked as a Nurse’s Aide. She was an independent stubborn woman who lived alone until her death and she never complained. After returning to Norfolk, she joined Mount Zion Baptist Church, Berkley, and attended until her failing health. She enjoyed communion from the Deacons and all the continued friendships. She also enjoyed Bernice “Ma” Smith’s soup and other treats provided by Mount Zion members. In May 1966, she married the love of her life, Jesse Walter Overby and they enjoyed their special relationship until his demise in 1999. They never stopped showing their love for their daughter, Sharon Overby Hicks Scott. She was preceded in death by her brother, Waverly A. Bell and sisters, Juanita Issac and Lois Kiah. She enjoyed visits from family and friends and enjoyed watching TV relentlessly. Even with her illnesses she always thanked God for his blessing and her longevity.
She will be sorrowfully missed by her daughter Sharon (Puddin); granddaughter, Karon Hicks Scott, Waldolf, MD; grandson, Dwayne Hicks (Wendy), Suffolk, VA; sisters, Eldred Riddick, Norfolk, VA, Thelma Calloway, New York (Manhattan); and other relatives and friends.
