Marjorie E. Lee

Sunrise: September 22, 1929

Sunset: September 8, 2024

Marjorie Lee slept quietly away on September 8, 2024, at her residence.  She was born in Yonkers, New York, September 22, 1929, to the late John Edward and Beatrice Marjorie Etheridge.  Marjorie was one of six children. When her mother died at a very young age, her father entrusted his children to the care of his father and mother to raise.

Marjorie received her education in Portsmouth Public schools and attended I. C. Norcom High school.  She later moved to Brooklyn, New York to work and assist her oldest sister, Katherine.

In the early sixties, she became a member of the Federation of Holy Trinity Churches.  She enjoyed witnessing to others about the goodness of the Lord and inviting people to church.

Marjorie was close to all her siblings.  However, her sister, Carol was not only her sister but was also her best friend as they grew up, and still holds that place of honor to this day. She would proudly state how she was there to babysit during the birth of most of the Joyner children.

She was predeceased by her husband, Junious Lee; her parents, John E. and Beatrice M. Etheridge; her siblings, Merland Etheridge, Katherine Thomas, James Etheridge, Clifton Etheridge; one daughter, Patricia Morton.

Left to finish their race: one sister, Carolyn Joyner, two daughters, Adrienne Etheridge, Phyllis Porter (Clayton); five grandchildren, John, Anthony, LeDon, Patrick and Chelsea; six great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and two seventy+ years friends, Mrs. Jessie Jones and Mrs. Hattie Brown.

As I say goodbye to my MOTHER I smile about a woman who endured having three daughters when all she wanted was a son. Her daughters fulfilled her life when they gave her grandsons. She also loved her two granddaughters but she lit up when those grandsons were around.

MOTHER, TAKE YOUR REST UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN

What can I say about my sweet auntie. She spoiled us and was like our mother. She was with my mom with all the birth of her children . She gave us treats. She was always telling someone about Jesus and she always told you the truth with a smile. We always had so much fun with our auntie she showed unconditional love always. She left an impact to all of our families and will forever be missed.

To the family, you have sincere condolences. Sis Lee and my mom (Clara Smith) were good friends and I can recall the Friday night prayer meetings in different ones homes, Wednesday noon day prayer meetings, them going out and witnessing to others, feeding and clothing the less fortunate and the list goes on. She had such a sweet spirit and smile and I’m sure she will missed beyond words. Take comfort in knowing she is resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior. 💜🙏🏾💜

TO: The Family of Sister Marjorie Lee
With heavy hearts, we gather to remember and celebrate the life of our beloved Marjorie Lee. She was a truly remarkable woman, whose unwavering faith and gentle spirit touched everyone she met. Her life was a testament to the grace of God, reflecting a deep love and compassion that inspired those around her.
Marjorie’s patience and kindness were a beacon of light in our lives. Her faith was not just a part of her; it was the foundation upon which she built her life, and it guided her every action. We are grateful for the countless ways she showed us what it means to live a life devoted to God, and we will carry her memory with us, cherishing the lessons she taught us through her example.

Though our hearts are heavy with her passing, we find comfort in the knowledge that Marjorie’s spirit rests in the peace and love of the Lord she so faithfully served. May we honor her legacy by continuing to live with the same grace, patience, and faith that she exemplified.
With deepest sympathy and fond remembrance,
