Marion Todd Ricks, Jr. (Hook) was born in Chesapeake, VA to the late Ella D. Ricks and the late Marion Wilson. He was born on November 19, 1963, and was called home on April 28, 2025.
Todd was a loving, caring father, husband, uncle and friend who loved to cook, “You can’t outcook me.”, as he would say. On his free time, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, yapping at the mouth, the loudest in the room. Everyone who came around Todd got a new name.
Now when it came to sports, Marion was a die-hard New York Giants fan. Todd was raised up in church with his grandparents at Bethlehem Church of God In Christ, where he sung with the band. His favorite gospel song was “Going Up Yonder.” He attended Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, VA. His first job was landscaping in Chesapeake, VA, then he started with the City of Norfolk. After leaving there, he started working with Tidewater Utility Construction, Inc. (TUCI), where he spent his last seventeen plus years before departing from this world.
Marion had eleven siblings, he was predeceased by his siblings, Rachel, Robert, Earlene, Lucy and Honorleah.
Todd leaves to cherish his wonderful memories; his loving and devoted wife who he called “honey,” better known as Alinez Ricks; his only son, his pride and joy, his dog, Dallas Ricks; children, Katora Ricks (Willie), Stacia Ricks, Charlethia Harris (Alex) and Leslie Ricks (Lawrence, Sr.); seven grandchildren, Heaven, Angel, Samiya, Isyss, Lawrence, Jr., AJ. and LA. He was the best grandfather you could ask for. Marion also leaves to cherish his memory, his siblings, Roberta, Tonya, Vivian, Joseph, and Aaron; four sisters-in-love and two brothers-in-love. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other family members, friends, and Paula Ricks, the mother of his children. Todd built special bonds with a lot of people but the ones who he really had a special bond with was his favorite uncle and aunt, Donald and Gina Wilson, Coolblock and Nookie. His special person was none other than “Breaker, 1 – 9”, Jay Wilson. A special best friend and his wife, LT and Aunt Tee. His work buddy and best friend, Mr. Thomas and the whole Tidewater Utility Construction, Inc. (TUCI) including the Richmond crew, Tommy A. (Gayla), Bobby D. (Brenda), and Thomas O. (Channon).
Hook will be truly missed by those who loved him.

April 30, 2025 at 5:17 pmSaying goodbye to you feels impossible. You were my brother by blood, but also my friend, my protector, and sometimes my biggest headache — but I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world. We didn’t always see eye to eye, I plucked your nerves something terrible. but we always loved each other, and that love will never fade.
I will miss your voice, your laughter, and your way of keeping it real no matter what. I’ll miss the jokes, the stories, and the moments we shared with our daddy. Life won’t be the same without you, but I carry you with me in every memory and every heartbeat.
Job well done on this earth and take your Rest big bro. Hug Daddy and our sister for me. I love you forever.
