On February 22, 2020, Marine Smith Tatem, departed this life for eternal rest. She was born on July 28, 1930 in Creswell, North Carolina to the late Ella Spencer Smith and John Smith. She married Leonard Tatem in 1948 and, from this union, nine children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, her oldest daughter, Rosa L. Bond; her brothers, Henry and Thad Smith and two great grandsons, Jomon Quillar and Torian Johnson.
Marine worked to clean many homes in the Hampton Roads area to provide for her family. She worked along with her sister, Doris Bryant, for over twenty years in the housekeeping department at DePaul Hospital. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Bollingbrook in Norfolk.
Left to mourn her memories, her loving sister, Doris Bryant of Norfolk, eight children, twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren, thirteen great great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
