It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marie Freeman Woodruff, age 64, of Portsmouth, Virginia. Marie transitioned peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth, surrounded by her loving family.Born on August 28, 1960, in Brooklyn, New York, Marie was the cherished daughter of Edith Freeman and her beloved bonus mom and aunt, Pattie Silver.
She attended and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School before earning a Bachelor of Administration degree from Old Dominion University. Marie was a woman of incredible strength, warmth, and dedication. She was the proud owner of Precise Income Taxes and Notary Service, a business that reflected her commitment to excellence and community service.
On May 18, 2002, Marie married her high school sweetheart, Gary Woodruff, and together they shared a beautiful love story that only deepened with time. Marie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, whose life centered on her family. Her nurturing spirit and selfless love touched everyone she encountered. She found immense joy in spending time with loved ones, whether during lively phone conversations or at cherished family gatherings.
Marie is lovingly remembered and survived by her husband, Gary Woodruff; her mother, Edith Freeman; her bonus mom and aunt, Pattie Silver; her sons, Printess Jovell Freeman, Brandon Freeman, and Edwin Freeman; her daughter, Travoria Freeman Collins; and stepdaughters Tiffany Jones, and Vavina Woodruff. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Damien Freeman, Justin Orr, Jaydin Freeman, Shi-Lecia Jones, and Cam-Ron Jones; and her godchildren: Makayla Elliott, Tamera Cherry, Lateah “Ms. Lucy” Cherry, and Trakel Cherry. Marie also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who were blessed by her presence.
Marie will forever be remembered for her unwavering love, her vibrant personality, and her unshakable devotion to family. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and cherished memories.
May her soul rest in peace and her memory be a blessing to all whose lives she touched.
