Marguerite W. Stinger

Sunrise: July 25, 1938

Sunset: July 25, 2024

On Thursday, July 25, 2024, our beloved sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend, Marguerite Winfield Stinger (86 years) of Chesapeake, Virginia, answered her heavenly Father’s call. Marguerite was born on July 25, 1938, in Norfolk County known today as Chesapeake, VA to the late Bernice R. and Clarence V. Winfield. Upon graduating from Crestwood High School, Marguerite chose a career in nursing. Marguerite was a concerned, kindhearted, compassionate, resilient person with a sense of humor. She had the ability to think and respond quickly, often leaving you laughing until you hurt. Marguerite spent most of her career working as a private duty nurse where she provided her clients with her undivided time, attention, and care. As a child, Marguerite was a shy reticent individual who spent her time reading books. She carried her love of reading into adulthood. When visiting her, you would always spot magazines and catalogs on her coffee table with pages dog-eared to remind her of the latest fashions she wanted to order. In her bedroom, her nightstand held three or four books that she was reading at the time. These books were either religious books, or self-help books.

Marguerite’s grandparents Minnie and Ulysses Reed along with her Uncle Bud Reed, who adored her, nicknamed her “Y.” Her younger sisters, especially Barbara Jean Moore, admired her as she always took care of and looked out for them while their parents worked. Although an introvert, Marguerite was friendly. She was someone you could trust. She loved to take bus trips to shopping centers, such as King of Prussia, PA with her traveling buddy, sister Shirley W. Gregory. Maguerite had a keen sense for fashion and was always “dressed to the nines.” She also loved thrifting and shopping for bargains. Marguerite loved dogs and owned several throughout her life. Up until her last breath, she was strong-willed, and her demeanor was that of authority, trust, and respect. Marguerite loved her family beyond measure. She was God fearing and humble.

Preceded in death are Marguerite’s parents Bernice R. and Clarence V. Winfield. Her grandparents Minnie and Ulysses Reed and her sister Audrey Winfield Halsey.

Maguerite leaves to cherish her memory, her sisters, Shirley W. Gregory of Chesapeake, VA., Barbara J. Moore (Aubrey) of Woodbridge, VA., son Duane M. Elliott, Jr. (Trina) of Hampton, VA., daughter Tracey H. Stinger of Virginia Beach, VA., son Christopher Jonathan Winfield Stinger of Chesapeake, VA., grandchildren Hillary Danielle Gustave Martin (Amadio) of Virginia Beach, VA.,  and Amber Gabrielle Gustave of Virginia Beach, VA. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a kindhearted neighbor, Tanya Weaver, to cherish her memory.

Rest well, Marguerite. Rest well in Jesus until we meet again. We will always carry your memory in our hearts.
