Margie Sanchez departed this life on December 15, 2024, and entered into the loving arms of her Savior.
Born on September 1, 1958, at the Governor’s Hospital in Manhattan, Margie was a gift to this world. Her life was a testament to resilience, love, and family. She was raised in Brooklyn by her devoted parents, Margie experienced a childhood filled with laughter, family, and meaningful friendships. Margie attended high school in Park Slope and graduated in 1977. She cherished playing handball and treasured the moments spent with her friends and siblings. Her sweet spirit and ability to make others feel special left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, David and Felicita Disdier.
She is survived by her life partner of over 37 years, Jerry L. Saunders, who cared for her until her passing; her loving sister, Nancy Vargas; and her devoted brother, Julio Cesar Torres; her beloved sister-in-love, Miriam.
She also leaves to cherish her memory her son, Joey Sanchez; grandson, Zayvion; and granddaughter, Aniya. Bonus children: Leonard McIntyre (Tam), Alisa Winston (Morris), and Alina Jones; Grandchildren (Jasmyn, Jordyn, Nia, Ava, and Aniya M.); Nephews dear to her heart include Reinaldo III, Richard, Julio, Jr. Gilbert, and Richard T.; Sisters-in-love (Vanessa Harris and Alfreda Scales); along with a host of cousins, friends, and family members. She also leaves to mourn a special girlfriend, Rose Johnson, with whom she would spend hours talking.
Margie’s legacy of love and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She had a remarkable ability to make others feel loved and valued, and her light will continue to shine through the countless lives she touched.
Margie’s departure leaves a void that cannot be filled, but we find comfort in knowing she is at peace, surrounded by eternal love. Her memory will be cherished forever.
