On January 30, 2025

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be
So he put his arms around you and whispered ‘Come With Me.’
With tearful eyes we watched you, slowly fade away,
Although we loved you dearly, we would not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Margie Ann Watson Harper was born to the late Gertrude and Hassel Watson on October 9, 1939, in Spring Hope, NC.   She was the first of two children born to Gertrude and Hassel Watson, as well as the oldest of two additional siblings born to stepmom Annie-Mae and Hassel Watson.

Margie was married to Charles Haper and together combined a blended family consisting of 10 kids: Loraletta, Annette, Stanley, Michael, Eddie Jr., Clint, Janeil, Don, Lori, and Tremain.

Margie worked many jobs over her lifetime.  She loved talking about how hard it was to work in the fields as a child in North Carolina, and definitely how cold it could be.  I think she liked to shock people when they learned how little money, she was paid for the amount of work she had to do. Margie was employed by DePaul Hospital for over 30 years before retiring.  During her time there, she worked in Central Supply as a Sterilization Technician.

Margie was a member of New Mount Olive Baptist Church.  There she served as a missionary with the church’s outreach program. She flourished as missionary working in the church’s food pantry doing what she has always done best, made sure people had something to eat.

Margie was adored and loved by everyone and was best known for her sweet spirit and giving heart.  Margie is predeceased by her eldest son Stanley (Slow Motion) Watson, youngest daughter Lori Ann Ferguson-Miles, and two grandsons Casey Ferguson Jr (Ashely) Indiana, and Trayvon Rivera Norfolk, VA. She is survived by her husband Charles E. Harper; 10 children-Loraletta Gaynor (Donnell), Norfolk, VA; Annette Harris (Lloyd Sr.), Chesapeake, VA; Michael Watson (Veida), Norfolk, VA; Eddie H. Capers Jr. (Violetta), Virginia Beach, VA; Clint Capers (Jenny), Norfolk, VA; Janeil Harper-Youngblood, Chesapeake, VA; Don Capers (Sophia), Virginia Beach, VA; Tremain Smith (Aleasha), Atlanta, GA.  26 Grandchildren, 32 Great-Grandchildren.

She is also survived by host of Nieces, Nephews, other Relatives and Friends.
