Margaret L. Haliday was born to the late William M. Haliday and Sarah Ann Hendrick Haliday on September 20, 1932 in Norfolk County (Chesapeake), VA. She leaves behind her loving, younger sister Joanna Haliday. Standing at Heaven’s Gate to greet her are her mother, father and brother, Albert.
In 1951, she graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School, soon after Margaret met the love of her life, Isaac Spears, and they were married on February 1, 1953. They were married for 70 wonderful years. During the 70 years of their marriage, they have raised seven children, who are as follows: Marie Adams (Luther), Isaac Spears II, Barbara Nesbitt, Joanna Terrell (Bryan), Veronica Anderson (Cecil), Margaret Graves, and Elizabeth Varner (Raymond). Among her seven beautiful children, Margaret was the grandmother to fifteen grandchildren, the great grandmother to forty-five great grandchildren, the great great grandmother to two great great grandchildren, as well as being an aunt to countless nieces and nephews.
While Margaret was a loving wife to a navy chief for twenty years, she was also a mother to her community. For decades, she was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Portsmouth, VA where she served on several ministries. She was a proud track mom as well as marching band. In addition, she was also a member of the Fleet Reserve. Lastly, Margaret was a proud entrepreneur who made handcrafted African American art.
Margaret was beautiful; she was fashionable, bold, electric, creative, compassionate, and understanding. Margaret leaves behind a long rich legacy of a loving husband, wonderful children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will truly be missed.

January 22, 2024 at 10:36 pmShe was a beautiful, fashionable woman. .Often I would compliment her on her unique style at church. I witnessed the love between her and Mr. Spears. He was always an attentive husband, who accompanied his wife to church,
Her gracious beauty will be missed, but my memories of her will be forever cherished.
To the family, I offer my condolences in the loss of this gracious woman.
