Margaret Dean Edwards

Sunrise: March 17, 1927

Sunset: September 16, 2023
Margaret Dean Edwards peacefully transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 16, 2023.  Born in Louisburg, North Carolina to Andrew Dean and Mary Williams, she was predeceased by her parents, husband, Haymon Lee Edwards, son, Harold D. Dean, and 10 siblings.
Margaret moved to Norfolk, Virginia to join her sisters seeking better employment.  She worked several jobs before she was employed with Norfolk Public Schools, never missing a day, until her retirement in June 1992.
Margaret accepted Christ at an early age.  She joined Mount Carmel Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend Pippins.  She was a member of various ministries in the church including the Ushers Ministry and the Seniors Ministry. On September 18, 2016, Bishop Russell named her The Mother of the Church during the morning worship service.  It was an honor that she cherished.  She truly loved her Bishop and her church family.
While raising her children, Margaret welcomed everyone to her home that was always filled with love and laughter.  She loved to cook and was known to feed all her children’s friends.  Everyone wanted to come to her home to eat some of “Miss Margaret’s food!”
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Sylvia D. Lawson (Mark), and Portia DeMary; son, Jeral L. Dean (Renee); daughter-in-law, Vivian Dean; six granddaughters, Jonita Michelle Rios, Markita Heard (Kevin), NaShay DeMary, NaTina DeMary, Meghan Albert (Chris), and Victoria Dean; grandsons, Edward DeMary, Jr., Eric DeMary, Jamie Dean (Amber), and Cameron Dean; 14 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; special nephew, Eddie Dean; special niece, Janice Ruffin; special adopted daughter, Viola Phillips; and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.

To the family. We are so sorry for your loss. The death of a love one can be extremely difficult to cope with. Many have found comfort in the promise found there at Acts 24:15. There it speaks about the Resurrection. Do draw comfort in the promise found there and please know you and your family will be in our prayers…MaryAnn
