Mandy N. Cannon

Sunrise: November 27, 1942

Sunset: December 31, 2022

Mandy N. Cannon entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 31, 2022. She was born November 27, 1942 in Norfolk VA to the late Bishop William D. Moore, the late Elder Estelle Moore and her loving God-Mother Martha Atkinson. She was predeceased by her husband William E. Cannon. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, Virginia in 1961. In 1976, she graduated from Kee Business college after attending for 2 years. For 34 years, Mandy Cannon worked and retired from Norfolk Public Schools transportation department as a bus driver where she received multiple Bus Driver of the Year and Safety Driver of the Year awards. At a young age, Mandy had a strong desire to play the piano. Her brother (Bishop William E. Moore) recognizing her passion, nurtured her development. Turning her into a prodigy, she became an extraordinary minister of music, mastering the piano, organ and directing choirs. “To know Mandy Cannon is to know that she was very gifted” (Ja’Quane Green). In her early years, she perfected skills playing at her father’s church, Holy Church of Christ Disciples. After her father passed, her services were in demand at serval different churches. After serving multiple churches, under the leading of the Lord, in 1992, Mandy joined Pentecostal Holiness Church (Portsmouth, VA) under the late Bishop Thaddeus L. Brinkley. While at Pentecostal Holiness, she served as president of the pastor’s aid and the minister of music, directing the PHC Youth Choir, PHC Gospel Choir, and PHC Senior. In rehearsals, her reputation was “No-nonsense,” desired excellence, “Starting on time and ending on time.” Whenever Mandy’s church had held concerts, she was known for having her children to sing and grandchildren play. In her later years, seeing her grandchildren developing her musical skills, she often called them to fill in to play on various Sundays at her church. As they excelled in their musical craft, she then taught them the standard of being a great minister of music and “The Business Side.” On this day, she leaves to cherish her memory, her brother Bishop William E. Moore and sister Annie Moore; four children; Erica Boone (Clinton Boone) of Portsmouth, VA, Bobby Moore of Norfolk, VA, Kaleta Green (Ja’Quane Green) of Elizabeth City, NC, and William “David” Cannon (Brittani Israel) of Virginia Beach, VA. Eight Grandchildren: Edward Moore (Charity Moore) of Atlanta, GA, Eric Moore, Reginald Moore, Alexis Moore, Jessica Moore, Aliza Israel, Santiago “Jay” Turner, and Brianna Green; Eight Great Grandchildren: Davontay Brown (Keanu Bell) of Seattle, WA, Tamiah Moore, Jayah Moore, Sariyah Moore, Eniiyah Moore, Erykah Moore, Elijah Clanton, and Joshua Clanton. Lastly, one Great-Great Grandchild: Sage Brown.
