Lynethe McCoy, affectionately known as “Lynette,” peacefully transitioned to her final resting place on Saturday, September 21, 2024. Born on October 13, 1944, in Edenton, North Carolina, Lynethe was a cherished daughter, devoted mother, beloved grandmother, and friend to many.
Growing up in a faith-based home, Lynethe dedicated her life to the Lord at an early age. She was surrounded by music, forming a part of the celebrated Hathaway Singers, a musical group that brought joy to her hometown of Edenton. Lynethe graduated from D.F. Walker High School in 1966 and went on to embrace her role as a homemaker while also working as a Food Service Worker at Norshipco.
Lynethe was preceded in death by her husband of 15 years, Pervis McCoy; her parents, William Augustus Hathaway and Martha Emma Blount; and her siblings, William Hathaway, Mary Sawyer, Barbara Royster, and twin sister Arynethe Roundtree.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Derrick Broadaway; daughters Kathryn Garris and Deborah Holmes; grandchildren Ariel, Derrick II, Brandon, Robert, Troy, Shaun, and Mark; great-grandchildren twins Leia and Layla; and siblings Daisy Bridges, Gladys (Yvonne) Booker, Emma Gatling, Francis McKinney, Martha Ruth Sawyer, Cherry Alexander, John Hathaway, and Joseph Hathaway, along with a host of other family members and friends.
Lynethe’s unwavering faith and her love for family defined her life. She enjoyed spending time at the casino, where she delighted in playing the slot machines, keeping up with current politics, and creating lasting memories with her loved ones.
In honoring Lynethe’s memory, let us celebrate her life filled with love, faith, and laughter.
