Louise Whitfield, 93, of Suffolk, Virginia entered eternal rest on January 3, 2024 at Norfolk General Hospital. She was born August 6, 1930 to the late King Patillo and Annie Walker in Nansemond County, Virginia. At an early age she confessed her faith in Christ and joined New Hope Baptist Church where she was a faithful member for over 55 years.
Louise (Lou), also known to many Momma Louise, and Ms. Whitfield was a caring mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to many. She lived out her life encouraging others to live a life of integrity.
Louise was educated in the Nansemond County School system and spent her career serving others. She provided care to families to ensure that their loved ones where safe and supported as they fulfilled their careers. She nurtured numerous Grandchildren and Great grandchildren throughout her lifetime to ensure that they were loved and grounded in God.
Louise had a passion for cleaning, being a vendor at yard sales and bargain shopping. Ross and Walmart was a few of her favorite stores. Louise never had a hard time telling you the truth, whether the person wanted to hear it or not and was a straight shooter in her conversation with loved ones. She spent many hours talking on the phone with family and friends and was a Woman of integrity who always kept her word.
Louise succeeded her parents in death along with her sisters, Jessie Mae Walker, Margaret Stanback, Mary Richardson, Missouri Anderson, Hattie Patillo and Janie Ward; two brothers, Herbert Walker and George Patillo; two sons, Godfrey Whitfield and Derona Walker; a daughter, Gloria Gaines and three grandsons Derona Rodgers, Terrence Walker and Donte Bynum.
Her beautiful legacy will continued to be cherished by her sister, Martha Patillo of Spring Valley, New York and two loving daughters, Ella Walker from Portsmouth., Virginia and Claire Chamblee (William) from Hampton, Virginia; two dedicated sons, Kendall and Wendell Whitfield of Suffolk, Virginia; two bonus children, Lin Saunders (Pam) of Franklin, Virginia and Valerie Bond of Portsmouth, Virginia. A dedicated caretaker, Brenda Kane and a faithful cousin, Floyd. Louise had seventeen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren and eleven great- great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends that loved her dearly.
A special thank you to Shorine White (Kevin), Valerie Pryor (Oliver) and Tamine Banks for the dedication and support they provided as she fought through her health care challenges. Louise lived out her last days saying, “I am a Strong Black Woman” shining her light and serving others as the epitome of strength.
