I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8
God whispered ever so gently in the ear of our beloved LORRAINE BROOKS GRIMSTEAD on October 24, 2024, while she was peacefully resting at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center, from labor to reward.
Life journey began for Lorraine Brooks Grimstead on October 27, 1935, in Waverly, VA. Lorraine relocated to Virginia Beach, VA, where she resided most of her adult life. She was affectionately known by many as “LoLo.” She was the daughter of the late Joseph & Annie Mae Smith.
She confessed Christ at an early age at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, VA. She was an active member of the Usher Board for several years. Lorraine worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant until she retired, and her health declined. She loved taking care of others and ensuring that they felt loved. Lorraine enjoyed laughter, going to church, loving family and family gatherings, going on bus trips, watching soap operas, shopping at Dillard’s, and more than anything else, she loved life. She would look forward to our family sleepovers, where she enjoyed listening and rejoicing to Luther Barnes’s “Old Revival Medley.” If there was not a tambourine available, a biscuit pan would suffice to accompany her shout unto the Lord.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph & Annie Mae Smith; Brothers, Ernest Smith, Donald Brooks Sr, Earl Brooks Sr, Charles Smith, and Robert Hamlin; Sisters: Dorothy Vaughan, Grandsons, Terrell Luster, Casey Ferguson Jr., and her beloved companion, James Bland.
Her memories will forever be cherished by Daughters Vanessa Grimstead Ferguson (Casey Sr.) of Chesapeake, VA, and Lorretta Luster of Waverly, VA; Sons, Calvin Smith of Virginia Beach, VA, and Terry Smith (Stephanie), of Waverly, VA; Bonus daughter, Slyvia Eure, of Virginia Beach, VA; Grandchildren, Lamonte Grimstead (Nicole), of Virginia Beach, VA, Darius Connor, Alexis Bivens, Amekeya Taylor, all of Waverly, VA, Aaron Ferguson, of Virginia Beach, VA; Brothers; James Brooks Sr., and Leon Smith, of Waverly, VA; Sisters; Celestine Grant, of Washington, DC, Juanita Revish, of Petersburg, VA, Doretha Johnson, of Ivor, VA, and Sarah Barrow (James) of Waverly, VA. A host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A special thanks to these devoted and faithful friends: Holly Miles, Donna Stewart, Lisa Jones, and Daphne Pitts. We could not have made it without your continued help.
Lorraine will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love and dedication to her church and family will continue to inspire those lives she touched, especially Lamonte and Alex, whom she raised as her own and held dear to her heart.

November 2, 2024 at 5:36 amVanessa and Loretta, I will truly miss my dear friend. She was such a kind loving person. And always had time to listen no matter what but you just did not call her during those stories. You all do not have to worry she has earned her wing and she is with our Lord and Savior, no more pain and suffering.
