Lorne David Turner, Sr.

Sunrise: February 17, 1967

Sunset: February 2, 2025

Lorne David Turner, Sr., 57, of Chesapeake, VA, born February 17, 1967, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025.  The gates of heaven opened, and angels escorted our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend into the welcoming arms of our heavenly Father.

Lorne is the second youngest of nine siblings, born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Elmer Eugene Turner and Peggy Jean Turner.

To continue his legacy, Lorne is survived by his lovely and devoted wife, Stacey D. Turner, his son Lorne D. Turner, Jr., his daughter, Teeyah T. Griffin (Joseph), two grandchildren who were the apples of his eye, Samari “SJ” Griffin and Serenity “Little Bit” Griffin, and mother in love, Celestine Artis (Leander). His siblings are Germaine Carter (Michael), Keith Turner (deceased), Kevin Turner, Rhonda Turner, Demear Turner, Demearial Turner (deceased), Tyrone Turner, and Serene Brockington (Evan).

Lorne graduated from Edwin Denby High School, on June 16, 1985. Since he had a strong desire to travel the world and obtain a successful career, the day after graduating high school he enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly and honorably served twenty years and retired as a Boatswain Mate 1st Class on June 30, 2005. During his time in the service, he received numerous awards and recognition, including five Navy/Marine core achievement medals.

Lorne has always been an extremely hard worker and determined to accomplish any and everything he put his mind to. Even as a teenager, he possessed a great work ethic. He would climb a ladder and paint his entire childhood home by himself. Naturally, as an adult with his own family, he worked just as hard if not harder. He maintained his household’s plumbing, electrical work, painting, decorating, gardening, power washing, mechanical work on cars and so much more. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. He instilled these same values into his children and family.

Lorne inherited his love of cars and long car rides from his father. He had an immense love for his family and friends. He held them close to his heart and would often prioritize their happiness and well-being above his own. He would literally give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was full of so much wisdom which he passed on and shared with his children especially when going to get ice cream which turned into a long car ride and conversation. You could ask him questions about anything from religion, politics, nutrition, history, etc. and he would have a detailed answer for you.

Lorne loved the Lord and was a member of The Mount Church in Chesapeake, VA. After his mother’s passing, he received and cherished her Bible. He would read it often and put notes in it, just as she had done. He held it close to his heart. He would always look to God for comfort, understanding, guidance, gratitude, and appreciation. Lorne always kept his family covered in prayer. Wise words he would always say and live by were: “Be good, love people, and God’s blessing will stay over your family.”

Lorne was very blessed and a blessing to his family, friends, and anyone he crossed paths with. He touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was one of love, dedication, and faith.

Lorne’s spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those he loved and inspired.

It is with a heavy heart that I write these words, but The Turner Family is in my thoughts and prayers. I was remembering the last time I saw Lorne and just laughing and talking, what a wonderful smile he had. I will continue to lift the family up in prayer as they bear Lorne gaining his heavenly wings.
    Love Chirelle
