From 2002 to 2012 Lionel worked for the Norfolk Police Department as a Crossing Guard and retired for the 2nd time. After his retirement, Lionel spent his days helping others in the community and participating in church activities at 2nd Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA. He spent his remaining years relaxing and enjoying time with family and friends.
Lionel leaves his wife Elouise Murrell Bagby he married on December 5, 1970, and from their marriage he has two daughters Patrice Evette Hendricks (Royal C. Hendricks, Jr) and Dedra Denise Rosado (Melvin G. Rosado, Jr). Lionel also has an older daughter Dr. Jennifer Lin Jones and 6 grandchildren, Jamaria White, Brandon Jones, Ayana Hendricks, Ori Bagby, Quinci Rosado, Zani Rosado, his great-granddaughter Braelyn Jones, and his remaining family and friends to cherish his memory. He had a special passion for his children and grandchildren. He is remembered for his love of the Green Bay Packers, several baseball teams and sports overall. He also enjoyed music of all kinds, with a preference for Jazz. We will miss you dearly, but we all know God loved you best and brought you home to rest.
