Mr. Linwood G. “Bubba” Blake, Jr. was born on August 7, 1964, to the late Linwood G. Blake, Sr and Daisy Lyles in Lewiston, North Carolina.
Relocating to Portsmouth, Virginia in 1978, where he attended Woodrow Woodson High School. He worked for years as a contractor on numerous building projects throughout the city. Linwood was renowned for his sense of humor and love for his family. Linwood was often called upon by the family to be the grill master, a crown he proudly wore.
Linwood or Big Bub as many called him was in a long-term relationship with Ms. Barbara Gilmore. He is survived and cherished by his two daughters, Devotee Turner (Patrick) and Carmen Whitehead, and five sons, Linwood Whitehead, Cornelius Gilmore, Cornin Gilmore, and Eugene Gilmore. He was predeceased by son, Gregory Gilmore.
Big Bub as he was affectionately called by siblings was the calm in the storm. He is survived by his sisters, Carmen Kelly, Dorothy L. Simmons, Lynda Battle, and Cynthia Beckford; and two brothers, Melvin L. Battle and Thomas D. Battle.
Linwood was a loving grandfather to five grandchildren, Lanziya Whitehead, Deontae Banks, NyAsia Whitehead, Kyree Whitehead, and DaMontae Turner.
Linwood also leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
