Mr. Walker, as he was affectionately known, was born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina on December 12, 1926, to the late David & Hattie Godfrey Walker. He passed peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at Morningside House in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He accepted Christ at an early age and rededicated his life to the Lord and joined Macedonia Church of God in Christ in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was a God-fearing man and in his last days, he asked the Lord to, “Forgive me for my sins, have mercy on me Lord Jesus.” It is such a blessing to know with an assurance that he knew and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Linwood (Buddy) Walker, Jr., two daughters-in-law, Theresa Walker and Dr. Barbara Shears-Walker; two grandsons, Arrington Walker and Kerwin Speller; extended grandson, Darrell Watson, Jr.; two granddaughters, Shayla Walker and Lauren Walker; extended granddaughters, Jasmine Burnette and Ashley Burnette; great-grandchildren, Qualik, Maya, Olivia, Nia, Kerston, Tajahri, and Justin; his faithful nieces, Dr. Janice Saunders, Diana Archer, Arlinda Walker and Priscilla Gray, two special great-nieces, Dorothy Marie Aycox and Dr. Lia Walker; his faithful two nephews, Ronald Walker (Irene) and Henry Walker; several great nieces and great nephews, other extended family members, and friends. His special friends and neighbors, “The Henrys”, and a very dear friend, Ms. Shirley Onley.
Mr. Walker, was the youngest of seven children. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Angelo Walker and Wayne Walker; four brothers, Isaiah, George, Joe, and Eugene; two sisters, Pauline W. Harrell and Rosa W. Robinson.
He was educated in the North Carolina public schools. He joined the United States Army and served for 22 years and did tours in the Vietnam War, Korean War and World War II and retired with honors as a Tech Escort and Supply Logistics, after the war, he returned to Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland. Following his military service he settled in Chesapeake, Virginia. He acquired a position as a mail carrier/special delivery with the U.S. Postal Service in Norfolk, Virginia where he retired after 19 years of federal service.
Mr. Walker was a quiet man, but very friendly and full of wisdom. He loved life and his three sons whom he raised as a single father. They knew he did not play around and wanted the best for them. He loved his daily “suppers” at Golden Corral, where he met so many people that fell in love with him. He enjoyed playing pinochle, beating up (as he would say), on Mr. Dave and his son Buddy. He often drove to North Carolina listening to his favorite songs on the drive, “The Mills Brothers”, to visit with his brother Joe, his family and others. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is free now and we know we will have another meeting on God’s eternal day.

May 8, 2024 at 5:43 pmWe were friends & neighbors to Mr. Walker on Haverford Dr. for many years until we moved to NC. Having been so close to him made our move hard. We appreciated his pride in his home and how very protective of our daughter he was. He even attended her soccer games. She always she couldn’t get in trouble because Mr. Walker was watching.
Sending our love to his son and family. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy.
