Linda Vernell Barnett Johnson, 77, peacefully went into eternal sleep with the Lord on Sunday, August 18th, 2024 at home surrounded by family after a short battle with congestive heart failure. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Linda loved family and anything family-oriented, she was a part of it. Whether it was a birthday, holiday dinner, family BBQ, or family reunion, she enjoyed serving and being around others. Linda worked in various positions for The City of Norfolk including being a receptionist at James Madison Recreation Center, Norfolk Water and Public Utilities, Norfolk Parks and Recreation, and Calvary Cemetery, where she was known for sitting at the front desk and would always greet you with a smile, before retiring after 34 years of service. She was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Lillie Barnett, brothers of Arthur Barnett Jr and Ronald Barnett Sr. She is survived by her husband of 59 years Joe Johnson, her daughter Patrice Brown, and her two sons Julius Q. Johnson (Toni) and Javone A. Johnson. A brother Shelby Barnett and two sisters Paulette and Al. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren 11 great-grandchildren and various nieces and nephews and cousins and a host of special cousins Diane Smith, Vance and Augusta Mae Everett, David and Brenda Johnson and family, Patsy Barnett and Family, Marva and Family.
